Shangluo College is a full-time ordinary undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education and organized by the Shaanxi Provincial Government. It is located in Shangluo City, the intersection of Qin and Chu cultures, the old revolutionary base, and the hometown of Jia Pingwa, a famous contemporary writer. Shangluo is located in the southeast of Shaanxi Province, at the southern foot of the Qinling Mountains, 110 kilometers away from the provincial capital Xi'an, bordering Henan in the east, Hubei in the southeast, and across the Yangtze River and Yellow River basins. It is compatible with the majesty of Qin, has a long history and culture, has distinct seasons and mild climate, and is rich in ecotourism and resources. It enjoys the reputation of "Shangluo is the most beautiful Qinling Mountains," and "the city of climate and health in China".
The school started from the May 7th Normal College in Shangluo, Shaanxi Province, which was established in 1976. In 1979, it was renamed Shangluo College of Shaanxi Normal University. In 1984, it was renamed Shangluo Normal College with the approval of the People's Government of Shaanxi Province. In 1987, it was under the management of the People's Government of Shaanxi Province. In 2005, it was merged with Shangluo Agricultural School of Shaanxi Province. In 2006, it was upgraded to Shangluo College with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2011, it became a provincial and municipal co built university. In 2014, it was selected as one of the first batch of pilot universities for transformation and development in Shaanxi Province. In 2016, it passed the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment of the Ministry of Education. In 2017, it was selected as one of the 100 national applied universities for industry education integration development projects determined by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. In 2018, it was selected as the construction unit of "first-class colleges" in Shaanxi Province.
